Palmerston North 20 October

Our Senior Missionary outing for the month of October was to visit Palmerston North.  It's about 2 hours north of Wellington.  There we were able to see the National Rugby Museum and visit the Esplanade Park.

This is the view of Palmerston North from Anzac Park  just south of town.

It's a beautiful setting on the shores of the Manawatu river.

Here we are outside the museum

We're quite a large group now with the Beckstead's, Kezerian's, Freeman's, Shepherd's, Overton's, McVey's and Hadlock's

The museum divides periods of time into 10-year segments and displays material from that era

Here's one of the earliest "All-Black" jersey's

An early "All-Black" team doing the traditional "HAKA" - they don't look to formidable do they!

Does this guy enjoy the game?  It's a WWII photo.

2nd from the right is LDS member Sid Going.  He gave up a lucrative "All-Black" contract to serve a mission in Canada for the church.  When he returned from a successful mission he became one of the most famed "All-Blacks" every.  Read the comments below that accompanied this photo in the museum!

"Probably the only truly "Great" player playing in New Zealand today! - What an honor!

This is where we all went to have lunch, "Cafe Esplanade" in Esplanade Park

Couldn't even get Ann in the photo

After lunch we walked around the park for some time.  There was a bird sanctuary and a small botanical gardens...very nice!
