'Wētā punga' - Weta - Rhaphidophoridae

Deserved of a posting is the New Zealand Tusked Weta.  This Arthropod is found in the gardens of Wellington stalking intruders and pinching the life out of them with its formidable front "tusks".  It is so impressive that movie director Peter Jackson named his visual effects company Weta and they are based here in Wellington and have hundreds on staff.  We won't belabor this topic too much longer, Here are a few views of this creepy, crawly behemoth that has seen the dinosour age come and go!  These are all photos of a Weta that our good friend Roy Ditchburn fought and captured in the wilds of his garden!

Sweet dreams!

This beast is found in the retail shop of the Botanical Gardens
