Saturday, February 25th was a nation wide LDS Service Day. Assuming that there are some 30 Stakes (geographic body of between 3,000 & 5,000 LDS members) in New Zealand and 200 came out to each Stake Project, that would be 6,000 members doing service across the country! The Wellington New Zealand Stake Project was to work on the building seen below. It's an old Maori Council building and the hope is that it along with the land around it will be made a sanctuary over the next 25 years. All the yellow shirts are "Mormon Helping Hands" shirts. By the way, the views from here are unbelievable.
President Harvey (with the machette) and local leaders.
We're all educated about the happenings of the day across New Zealand.
Even little Mia Mueller get's to help. This little girl comes and sits with us during the last 30 minutes of every Sacrament Meeting on Sunday! She's adorable!
Here Roy Ditchburn and the Overton's prepare to labor. See the view behind them!
Ann was not feeling well so she stayed home and let me go. Here I'm helping put up the scaffling for cleaning and painting the building.
There were actually three different projects within the one. Below I'll show some photos of each.
This group of photo's represent the work on and around the council building.
Then down the street, there was work to be done on the road leading up to the Council building
Here's the area I was assigned. It's really three different projects. To the left of the tree, unseen was a project to work on a garden. In the upper left is a project to place posts in concrete into the ground for a plant shelter. To the right a hut was constructed to protect native plant growth. I worked on the posts and hut.
As I mentioned above, the views from up here are unbelievable.
