There is no map here. We spent Thursday night and Friday morning on the Milford Mariner that is shown below. We've seen some of the Lord's handywork on the face of the earth, but I don't know that there's anything as spectacular as seeing Milford sound, the waterfalls that are higher than Niagara all around you. Milford Sound is #1 on the 101 Kiwi Weekends with the surrounding area "Fiordland National Park" rating #4.
Highlights of this evening & morning:
- Observing no less than 12 waterfalls that were in excess of 200' in height. Normally you're lucky to see a couple, but it was raining when we arrived...the perfect environment for waterfalls.
- Then as the evening progressed, the sky was clear providing beautiful sunset scenery.
- We were treated right after leaving the docks with a school of Dolphins with a newborn.
- We also got to see a number of seals laying on the rocks.
- The next morning was perfectly clear as we headed out to the Tasman Sea.
- As we rounded the final turn out to sea, we were greated by the "Celebrity Century", a monster cruise ship entering the sound.
Here's Mitre Peak, rising nearly 1 mile almost straight out of the water!
Here's the dolphins that accompanied our cruise.
This waterfall is nearly 300' in height! The Mariner captain nudged the ship bow right up under the waterfall. Note that the water is nearly 1,000 feet deep right at the edge of the rock!
How about this sunset picture?
This seal wasn't too sure about our visit!
Other posts from our trip have me dividing the pictures and saying a few things about one of two of them. These photo's say it all so I won't say a word.
No words but WOW!!
