To The Glacers and The West Coast

We drove from Queenstown up through Wanaka over the Gates of Haast down to the west coast and up to Fox Glacier as shown in yellow below.  All in all a beautiful trip of some 325km.

Highlights of this days trip included:
  • A trip from Queenstown up to Wanaka which would compare with Park City, UT.  In and around this town are #32 & #97 on the 101 Kiwi Weekend trips.  Cross-Country skiing and walking the Clutha River in the fall.  Both six months away!
  • Also in Wanaka is the fun "Puzzling World" rated #71 on the 101 Kiwi Weekends.
  • A trip north between Lake Wanaka & Lake Hawea, both something like Lake Powell.
  • The trip north included stops at the Blue Pools rated #21, the South Westland rated #22, Thunder Creek Falls and the Gates of Haast.
  • From the Gates of Haast, west to the coast for lunch and the trip along the coast to Fox Glacier.
Here's one of the rooms at "Puzzling World" - sort of comical.

Here's Lake Hawea.
