Auckland to Wellington Repeat Visits

In November we were blessed with the arrival of Mollie, Paul and "Miss Lilah" our 9-month old granddaughter whom we had not seen.  We drove to Auckland, picked them up and began a 4-day trek back to Wellington seeing both new and old sites.  Repeats will be addressed briefly below while new experiences will be individual posts....hope you enjoy.

A visit to the Hamilton New Zealand Temple was first on the list.

Mollie and Paul had to see Huka Falls

With Paul's background in geology there was a real interest in seeing the sites around Tongariro National Park where one of the volcanoes had been showing signs of activity with steam and such!

We missed the volcanoes eruption by 1 day!  Darn and we were so close.  It was more steam than anything else, but qualified as an eruption with everyone evacuated!

Ohakuna is know as the "Carrot Town"

The countryside continues to be beautiful every direction you turn!

When going through Woodville you must stop for the obligatory cheesecake!  "When in Rome...."

A quick stop at Castle Point and it was NOT a disappointment.  It's always beautiful!

Then it was down to Cape Palliser, the seals and the lighthouse!

Can you see the two seals looking down on Paul & Lilah?

On the way back to Wellington an hour hike up to Putangirua Pinnacles where Lord of the Rings filmed Dimholt Road.

The End
