Oamaru to Christchurch

The next morning we were off to Christchurch.
Our first stop was at the 45th Parallel which is nearly
1/2 between the equator and the south pole.

We then stopped at Timaru to see the breakers and lighthouse

On our route we crossed the longest two-lane
bridge in New Zealand

Our next stop was in Geraldine to see the world's
largest "Jersey" and the renowned 1066 mural.
You should google the 1066 mural, it's an amazing
story about England & France.

We then made a beeline to Akaro to catch the tour boat you see
below.  The road was so windy and slow that we missed the
sailing and just enjoyed the sites in town and around the area.

Akaroa is actually a French settlement that was made too late to
claim the land settled in 1840 at the treaty of Waitangi
between the Maori and British.

Here are a sampling of the neat little cottages in the settlement:

You actually drive up a hill and down into the valley and bay
that make up Akaroa.  Around all the area is a road that circles
the entire bay and villages.  The next few photos give you the view
that we had while making the drive.

From here we proceeded 45 minutes into Christchurch
